If yes, then you have the option to apply for Non Group Coverage, a provincial supplemental health benefits plan that offers coverage for a range of health services that are not covered under AHCIP, including prescription medicine coverage. If approved, you would be required to pay a monthly premium set by the government. Premium assistance is available to low-income families. After paying your premium, you would be eligible for coverage of medicines that are listed on the Alberta Drug Benefit List. The list is available publicly, and it is possible to search it by looking up the name of the medication to see if it is covered. If yes, the cost of the medication is covered once you pay a 30% (per prescription) co-payment to a maximum of $25.
