You must be registered with the Extended Health Benefits for Specified Conditions to have coverage through this plan. If you have already registered, and you are receiving care from a primary care provider for one of the listed eligible conditions then you are likely eligible for full public coverage of medications related to your condition that are provided under the program. The program makes decisions about medication coverage on the basis of the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Drug Benefit List developed by Indigenous Services Canada for its client population.
If you have a condition that is not listed or a medication has been prescribed for you that is not on the benefit list, your prescriber may submit a request to Nunavut’s director of medical insurance on your behalf asking them to consider special coverage for you.
