The VAC programs rely on a formulary that specifies which medicines are covered and under what circumstances. You can search the formulary to find out whether the medicine you need is covered and under what circumstances. In some cases, you may need a request form that is completed and submitted by your prescriber for approval before the medication would be covered. If the medicine you are prescribed is not on the formulary, you should work work your prescriber to complete and submit a written request that includes the specific medical reasons why you need this medication even though it is not listed. This request would then be reviewed, and a decision made about whether or not it would be covered for you. For more information about coverage, please see the VAC website.
